Salut,

voici le message que j'obtiens en tentant d'installer windows 98 se
"installer à  partir du cd windows 98" :

c'est sympa qu'il scanne, .......... mais malheureusement , il ne trouve rien et je reste bloqué sur ce message de "Scanning PCI ...."

je suppose qu'il cherche après le lecteur de cd, car,

En démarant à  l'aide de la disquette d'install. , fdisk , ..., puis le propmpt A:
cd E: (ou F , G , H , I , J, ...) , il revient toujours sur A:

la partition est bien en Fat 32, active, ....
matos = asus nforce2 deluxe // amd barton 2.8 // 2 x 512 ram // GF4 128 // Graveur LiteOn 52 // 2 x DD Maxtor 80 Gigas

quelqu'un a-t-il déjà  rencontré ce genre de problème, . une idée ???
serait-ce trop de ram ??? , le graveur non repéré ?

je précise, . windows 2000 et XP s'installent sans problèmes, tout est reconnu.
ET, mon CD win 98 SE est en parfait état .

As-tu essayé avec une seule barrette de RAM ? Je vois pas le rapport avec PCI mais j'ai souvent vu/lu que plus de 1Go de RAM posait des soucis à  Win98.
A voir...

j'ose pas enlever une des barrettes, elles sont "scellées", l'assembleur a mis des "étiquettes" sensibles, pour certifier les garanties .

j'attends d'autres avis avant de prendre ce risque là

T'as parfaitement raison.
Touches à  rien tant qu'il est sous garantie.
De plus, pourquoi ne pas demander à  l'assembleur pourquoi son matos . . . ne prends pas 98 ?

Salut,

98 permet de limiter la quantité de Ram, mais une fois qu'il fonctionne, qu'il est installé.

Pour cela, démarrer/exécuter, tu tapes MSCONFIG et sous l'onglet général, tu cliques sur "options avancées" et là , tu as la possibilité de limiter la mémoire.

Cela dit, je rejoins l'idée d'Eser, c'est sans doute la quantité de mémoire qui te joue un tour.

A mon avis c'est quand même dommage de brider une telle machine en employant 98 (même SE), elle serait plus à  l'aise avec 2000 ou XP.

Bon, je viens de prendre les options de install, les voici:

Il me semble que le commutateur /im te conviendra.

Quand je l'installe sur un ordi fraîchement formaté, j'emploie tous les commutateurs (sauf le déplacement de TEMP), à§a gagne du temps.

Est ce une disquette de démarrage ou d'installation?
La disquette d'installation te propose de démarrer avec la prise en charge du CD ou non !
Mais la disquette de démarrage ne sert que pour démarrer W98, quand il est installé ! (Plantage)
Si j'ai bonne mémoire !

Mais normalement , tu devrais Booter sur le CD de W98 !?

well...I bought a motherboard ASUS A7N8X De Luxe ver2.0 and when I tried to start the Win98SE install CD I got the following:

On this scan, the system just hangs....



Well... usually the best strategy to deal with this problem is to take out all the PCI cards you have installed in your system and just leave whatever is strictly necessary to boot up the system (f.i. the Video Card).
Next time you try to install WIN98SE, the boot process will go through successfully and you will be able to install the OS.
Obviously, you can install the removed PCI cards again after installing Windows!

But in the case of the motherboard under discussion all this can't be enough!!.

Indeed, this motherboard has 2 Integrated LAN controllers (3Com® and NVIDIA®, respectively), and we must take it into account when dealing with our problem.
Usually a LAN controller is nowadays integrated in a PCI card. Therefore when you take out your PCI Cards from PCI slots, as suggested, you will take out your NIC also.
But now you haven't a PCI NIC at all, because the ASUS A7N8X De Luxe ver 2.0 has integrated LAN controllers. Neverthless it is logical to assume the integrated LAN controllers to somehow still make use of the PCI bus, and consequently to assume they can still affect the boot up of the WIN98SE setup program. A promising way to deal with our problem is therefore to disable these LAN controllers also. To do this requires to access the CMOS Setup Utility.
You have simply to press the DEL key at system power on. Choose then ADVANCED in the menu bar, and then INTEGRATED PERIPHERALS. Here look for ONBOARD LAN items. You'll find 2 items:
ONBOARD LAN (nVIDIA) and ONBOARD LAN (3COM). Choose the ONBOARD LAN (3COM) and set it as DISABLED by pressing the PgUP/DN keys. Please note that the item ONBOARD LAN (nVIDIA) don't affect by any means the boot up of the WIN98SE setup program. Therefore you can leave this item selected as AUTO.

Put now the WIN98SE setup CD into the CD drive and then save the changes to CMOS (press F10 key and then ENTER) . The system will reboot and you will be able to install successfully the OS.

After installing Windows install once again the removed PCI cards. If you need it set also the item ONBOARD LAN (3COM) in the BIOS Setup Utility back on AUTO.
